Whilst drilling down in sites analytics, I realised high increase in keyword and pageviews relating to top visted Nigerian sites as a result of these articles, Top 20 Most Visited Sites in Nigeria and Top 5 Indigenious Most Visited Sites in Nigeria. This post would deliberate on the top 10 Alexa ranking indigenous site with a view to determine what Nigerians are consuming on the web
Analyzing these sites, nairaland.com which offers a broad discussion forum for Nigerians is still at the fore front. Social media still plays an important role in boosting traffic to the sites especially the news/publishing sites where users consume readily available contents.
A quick overview shows that the publishing category attributes to 50% of high trafficked sites on the list. In the corporate category, gtbank.com still is heavily trafficked as a result of its offline and online popularity coupled with its online banking facilities. It is of course newsworthy that an ecommerce site, jumia.com.ng is on the list pointing to the fact Nigerians are gradually adopting eCommerce. It is interesting to note that most of these site are optimized for mobile which is a plus considering the high mobile internet penetration in the county.
